Indians are trying to get over the Chinese app TikTok and joining the league of several other apps like Ropose, Mitron, and Bolo Indya in Zee5. Ever since its launch in 2018, Zee5 is rapidly capturing the entertainment market and giving a tough competition to ALTBalaji, MX Player and similar platforms.
Zee5 has decided to broaden its horizon, and that is why it has decided to launch a short video feature known as ‘HiPi’. They have integrated this feature in their Zee5 app instead of developing a separate app. They are looking forward to providing both long and short-form content on a single platform. They had revealed to launch a short video entertainment app by the name of Hypershots in the month of February.
‘HiPi’ would be available on Zee5 app in a few weeks. One would be able to generate video content for upto 90 seconds, unlike TikTok that permits videos for up to 15 seconds only. ‘HiPi’ would also have a lip-syncing feature.
‘HiPi’ would have to face tough competition from TikTok as the app has more than 200 million users. Till the month of May 2020, there were 611 million downloads of TikTok. However, the Zee5 has picked a good time to launch HiPi as the fear of the on-going
pandemic has forced the people to stay indoors having less or no access to any outdoor activities. Another factor that would help ‘HiPi’ to be accepted by the people is the anti-China sentiment because of the tension at the borders. This will help ‘HiPi’ gain initial momentum because people are looking forward to staying entertained even if they are confined within their homes.
‘HiPi’ would probably be received well as it is Indian, unlike Mitron app that was said to be ‘Made in India’ but was later revealed that it was brought from a Pakistani developer.
